Graphic Novelist Scott McCloud
Known for his work as both a successful cultural critic of comic books and an award-winning artist and creator of them, Scott McCloud comes to the Chicago Humanities Festival with his new graphic novel, The Sculptor. Chicks Dig Comics author Lynne Thomas joins McCloud at The Art Institute to talk about his latest work, five years in the making, which tells the story of an ambitious artist willing to go to great lengths to succeed. McCloud is variously referred to as the "Aristotle," "McLuhan" and "titan" of comics for his trio of best-selling non-fiction analyses, Understanding Comics (1993), Reinventing Comics (2000), and Making Comics (2006), and he'll stick around for a signing after the discussion. Cartoonist, filmmaker and performer Lyra Hill is set to appear as an opening act.
