This was a blast!!! What a fun time!!! I had seen all, but one, of the movies referenced in this production and that made it all the more pleasurable.....but the music was so upbeat and fun, that it wouldn't have mattered. Very entertaining!!!

Great show, as always! Truly a unique experience - live acting and singing in an interactive environment. Great food as well. We've seen 4 of the Directors' shows so far, and have the next one already on the calendar (Martin Scorcese).

Please read this review knowing that our party of 6, are not theatre/musical people...We all loved it! I was worried my husband and his macho friends would be bored and that only me and my 2 girlfriends would kinda like it. NOT THE CASE. The level of talent in this cast is unbelievable. Going to this show has made us ALL want to comeback to this type of event. Great food, drinks, and melt your face off entertainment...Perfect night all around. For the Record John Hughes is a must see.

Great Show!! Food was excellent and the new expansion/re-model made the experience that much more enjoyable. The cast of singers was most talented--strong voices and attractive young performers. We will keep an eye out for more shows at Rockwell: Table and Stage. Oh, and very easy valet drop-off right by the entrance.

What a clever and fresh way to bring back the idea of "supper club!" The cast was extremely talented, the band rocked it, and the direction and choreography was spot on. I'm sorry I missed previous "For The Record" shows at the Rockwell. Never again!

First time at Rockwell. The staff that night was friendly and helpful, everyone from valet services, to door hostesses, to our bartender. Sitting at the bar seemed to be the way to go (though the seats were uncomfortable after a while, more due to me being short). The 18% stated gratuity wasn't enforced at the bar, and the bartender was nice enough to do separate checks for us. The cast was fantastic...great sets of pipes on all of them. Fun little show. My only criticism that I may have about the show was that the mics were turned up way too loud. The band was completely drowned out at times, and the excessive decibels really gave me a headache by the end of the night. Overall, a well put together show though. I would return for another event there!

Make sure to go at least an hour early to reserve a good seat! We had a great time! The performances were right on point. A great departure from going to a larger and more expensive performance at Pantages or something. You really are a part of the action! The waiter and hostess were great. Can't complain about anything.

When they find out you are a Goldstar customer, they don't put you in the best area to sit. We got there very early 6:45pm, and the place was not even 1/4 full, and the hostess wanted to sit us right next to the front door on the bench facing a big pillar. We asked if that table or that table or that other table was available and she kept saying most all tables are reserved. We ended sitting at the bar.
Food was expensive!!! 2 item minimum and drinks were expensive. My ceasar salad with chicken was wilted and old. The bartender was kind and tried to get me something else.
Music was great, though!

Fantastically done! It highlights the best parts of each movie and pairs the music perfectly!! I loved the show and loved our seats...however, beware that you will be in the spotlight most of the time if you sit in the 6 tables in the center of the room, and you will occasionally be in the spotlight ANYWHERE else you sit in the restaurant (even if just for a second). The actors are great at moving around the room so everyone can see them and feel like part of the show.

This is the first "For the Record" event I have attended and it will not be the last! First let's start with the venue - the Rockwell is absolutely gorgeous and this large side room (I understand it used to be smaller?) is a perfect setting for cabaret style show. There are pillars in the room so at some point there is a chance a singer will be blocked out for a short while, but since the numbers are all staged with cast members moving in and out about the audience, on the bar, etc. you will see 90% of it.

Each of the 3 of us who attended loved our diverse range of entrees. The drinks were $12, but strong, innovative and wonderful. The food and drink are bit pricey, but they are top notch and frankly, I would expect to pay more to eat in a beautiful cabaret than if I was in a typical restaurant. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive throughout the show.

On to the show! The performers were Broadway quality with amazing voices and creative choreography (which has to be fairly basic due to the small space they are performing in). The most unique and best part of course is that its cabaret style - they are performing from all around you - ranging from a few dozen feet away to a few inches. The live band was top notch, the sound, lighting were all perfectly handled and it had a fairly large cast for a "small" production. I really felt like I was watching a show that should have cost more than its face value, let alone the half price Goldstar price considering enjoying this talent in such an intimate and fun venue.

Bottom line: if you like unique events in an amazing setting with excellent talent, this is a steal! If you like dressing in a tux with your opera glasses hoping people notice you paid for the private balcony box, you might want to pass.

I enjoyed the shows - the band and performers are very talented.

They need to work on the audio / acoustics. It might have been an issue with the mics for the performers. The first half of the show, you could not hear the singing/lyrics. It was drowned out by the band. It seemed to get better as the show went on.

I have been there before and words to describe are difficult. It is just plainly an awesome night out. They remodeled the venue, so it is modern bohemian. They sing and dance all around you. So you feel very much a part of the show. The servers are CUTE must be a requirement. The food is great, so can eat and drink while the crazy fun entertainment is going on around. This is the 3rd "For the Record" I've seen. I'm an 80s child, so it was my favorite because of content. The singers weren't as great as some of the other shows I've see. Honestly, the bottom line is this is neither good show nor good food; it's been designed to pump money out of you without delivering.

At this place, You will end up paying about $50 per person, no matter what, after Goldstar discounted ticket, because they force a minimum of 2 items from the menu on you, and the items are priced very high (a desert and a coffee is $20). Entrees START at $18, but you will get a dish worth $7 for your money. The curry dish is white rice with few pieces of potato and carrot (about $2 worth of ingredients) for $18. Ravioli dish is just a bit of salad with few pieces of Ravioli for $18.

I didn't find the show entertaining either; just singers in their every day casual dress running around. The stage is also obstructed; so, you will miss parts of the show; one fellow had to change seats and sit away from his girl friend to be able to see the stage. They tell you come early to get good seats, but they are trying to get you in early to eat dinner there to make more money. We dressed up; went there around 7:30PM, ate dinner there, but had a lousy seat, lousy food, didn't enjoy the show, and didn't have a good time.

The restaurant is in Los Feliz neighborhood on Vermont Ave.

If you want good food, go to a good restaurant. If you want a good show, go to a good theater/arena.

Went to the show on Friday, 08/31 with a friend. Arrived around 8pm so that we could enjoy dinner before the show, and glad we came early. We shared a bunch of appetizers, and the food was delicious (the food prices are moderate - around $15 for apps, $20 and up for entrees. Their version of the skillet cookie is awesome.) We had a nice choice of seating near the stage. The show was great fun, especially if you love the 80s. The singers/actors are all quality and put their all into the performance. We were especially tickled that Kenny Ortega (director and choreographer) was in the audience! He was gracious and enjoyed the show as well. Von Smith debuted in the show that night and is AMAZING. Go see this!

The sound system was awful. It was way TOO loud, way too much screaming instead of singing. Four of us were seated at a table big enough for 2 people only. The show lasted for 1.5 hour nonstop. We were looking forward to their break so we can sneak out of there. No such luck :-) I am starting to question the reliability of these ratings on Goldstar.

This was an amazing retrospective on movies by John Hughes, the music selections was far more than what I anticipated. Genre's from all decades and music styles. It only proves how talented this cast/ensemble is. The venue was very appropriate and an intimate setting, not a bad seat in the house.

Anyone who was around for the 80's knows John Hughes movies, either Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club or 16 Candles, or at the very least Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Some of the scenes and music are so iconic, they have made an indelible mark on our filmgoing memories. Rockwell's popular series "For The Record..." brings back one of it's more popular shows in an even better and tighter incarnation then the one from last year. The venue, which has tripled in size to a really nice space for performance since I was last there, offers great sight lines and less crowded seating than they had before. Indeed, the last time I was there the tables and chairs felt so cramped it was a little uncomfortable, and it was hard to enjoy dinner having people so close, Now, however, this new space offers really comfortable and generous seating to move around. The food is great and not too expensive and the drinks were strong, even some special cocktails created for the show itself. The cast of the show performs mostly off of the stage, in areas around the tables and audience. It sounds like it wouldn't work, but it does, beautifully. At one point, during "Weird Science", a performer even offered me a shot, which I gladly accepted! And a few audience members got to dance with cast during the prom number from "Pretty In Pink". The excellent lighting follows the performers around the room, and sound compliment the performances, which could be heard clearly throughout. Great sound design, guys. The show itself was made up of scenes from John Hughes teen comedies and moved along at a fast clip in a 90+ minute show. The performers, a rotating roster of talented experienced Broadway singers, was uniformly great. "For the Record- John Hughes" was one of my favorite cabaret type shows I have seen in ages. I am planning on heading back as soon as I can, as I know nearly everyone I know would love it. I took two people in their early 20's and I saw people there of all ages enjoying it. Some PG-13 language makes it completely suitable for older kids, who have probably seen Ferris Bueller and know the movies by heart anyway, and people who were old enough to remember the 80's will absolutely love it. Bravo! What a fun night out!

I've lived in LA for a couple of years now, and this ranks among the top 5 things that I've seen. The actors were super talented and the 360-degree/theater-in-the-round thing was really cool (so don't worry where they seat you; you generally aren't looking at the stage where the band is). I'll also confess that I've never seen a John Hughes movie all the way through but still loved it!

Fun night! Will definitely be going to more shows by For The Record! My food drink and service review was good for Rockwell (where the shows are held) as well.

This was so fun! I loved all those movies and this was such a fabulous tribute. Nathan Parrett is a star and Angel Reda has the voice of an angel...I wish she had more solos in the show-she's fantastic!

Great performances! Loved the music. Totally took me back to my teenage years in the 80s

Best cast I have ever seen at a For The Record performance. Nothing like 80's angst filled power ballads to show of amazing vocals The songs we known by all, which added to the fun
The new performance space at Rockwell is awesome.
A really unique and fun night!

Most fun night of theater...period. If you had seen the earlier incarnation in the smaller space, come see it again in the larger room. Great time!!!

The entertainment was fantastic. Very talented performers. Especially Brenna Whitaker.

But, the venue sucks. They try to cram way to many people into a small space. The staff was great in getting drinks and food to us. The food was actually good...but please get a bigger place!!!

The show was fabulous and a lot of fun. Actors were great and had wonderful voices. Would recommend to anyone. One thought, they completely oversold the show (we went on Saturday) and were shoving people in everywhere (6 people where normally 2-3 could fit). No one could move and it was very uncomfortable for all. They would do better to keep in mind how many people the space holds and sell only that amount of tickets. If there was an emergency, it would have been very, very ugly.
