Written on Feb 11 2013It was looking behind the curtain. It's amazing to realize the Wrecking Crew played on some of the best LPs that came out of LA in the 60s instead of the groups themselves - a real eye-opener even for someone who has been in the biz since the early 70s. Great touch with Jerry Moss, Lou Adler and Herb Alpert giving Hal Blaine a "gold record' as he played on the #1 song 7 years in a row.
I thought the editing could have been a bit better and it would have been nice if more musicians from that day allowed themselves to be interviewed, but it was a great doc...like "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" only with less music because they can't seem to get music rights.
The one thing that was strange is they advertised "appearance by Nancy Sinatra & Friends" and the only time she was there was in the film. By the way it was advertised we all thought she was appearing live.
Written on Feb 11 2013If you love the music played on the radio in the 60's and 70's, if you think you are a Rock'n'Roll fan, if you are into music history- this is a must see.
I went to see a movie that friends had suggested I see. I ended up enjoying a once in a lifetime event filled with highlights during the night. First, I met Denny Tedesco, a warm loving soul. Next, I met Hal Blaine, a legend in rock music, not just in his mind (pun intended). I sat down next to a school teacher that has student who is a grandson of one of the Beachboys. Sitting beside her was the wife of a man that used to own the Saban Theater. The theater looked amazing, like the Wizard of Oz lives there. and staff were wonderful ( I just looked ahead on this review and want to include that Goldstar services helped by saving me money and having my name on THE LIST when I went to the box office, thank you). All this and the movie hadn't even started. After being enlightened to the unprecedented accomplishments of the Wrecking Crew, there was a question and answer session with more famous stars, including Nancy Sinatra. Unfreakingbelievable !!! Much more than I expected and a night that will not be forgotten.
Written on Feb 11 2013The Wrecking Crew is an exceptionally fine documentary film. I had heard about it for years but this was my first opportunity to see it. The film has not officially been released yet. The producers are still raising money to pay licensing fees for all of the music that the film explores. In fact, this screening was a fundraiser for that very purpose. The film itself and the presence of so many music industry notables made this a memorable evening.
Written on Feb 11 2013The movie was excellent and I appreciate all the hard work that went into the production, but I felt it was way too long.
