Our Price:

One Night With Janis Joplin adds some actual Fourth of July fireworks to the musical ones produced on stage, with a post-show barbeque buffet on the Arena Stage terrace -- a prime viewing spot for the famed pyrotechnics launched on the National Mall. First up is the show, a part-concert, part-theatrical event that captures Janis Joplin's life and legacy in all its live intensity. Mary Bridget Davies stars as the rock legend in a performance that has audiences dancing in the aisles and critics raving. Featuring powerful musical numbers including "Piece of My Heart, "Summertime" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as one song Joplin never formally recorded, One Night boasts a full band and a cast including Sabrina Elayne Carten, who plays Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. After the performance, you'll move outside the theater for food and drinks, along with the fireworks viewing. Please see the full event description for the buffet menu. Learn More

We went with a group of 8. Being amatuer sleuths, we were glad for the handouts/questions that prompted us to go around and mingle with the other suspects! We really weren't sure "who dunit."
The food was fantastic-huge salads, baked chicken with all the trimmings, and a wonderful Teramisu Dessert.
The MC was very funny as an FBI agent in charge of the crime(s). We were constantly being called out by the FBI agent re: the murder.
We all got a chance to get up and examine the crime scene/table, to draw our own conclusions. Very enjoyable evening. We laughed the whole way home!

Lots of fun getting to know other participants. It was so enjoyable that the evening went by fast. Definitely, I would do this again.

The food was really good... but I think it needs to state quite clearly on the website that this is NOT a play. We didn't find out until after it started that it is LED by actors, but it was not at all what I thought it would be. It involves some walking around and talking to the people around you (before dinner and between courses) to get the clues you need to solve the mystery. Actors posing as dinner guests give you some hints, and some parts you have to figure out on your own. In all fairness, if it had been our kind of thing, it probably would have been a lot of fun.

Description

An ultra-interactive experience designed especially for amateur sleuths with a twisted sense of humor!   Featuring contemporary 21st century plots involving murder, mystery and mayhem and designed for sophisticated adults...

You are literally in the middle of a live-action experience, conducting your own investigation into a homicide case.  You are discovering and analyzing hidden evidence and are interrogating the criminal element surrounding you (improvisational actors posing as suspects from the plot) - all the while being treated as a suspect yourself by an hysterical Homicide Detective (professional stand-up comedian) working the case.

Along with motive, means and opportunity, the plot meticulously unravels throughout the evening with a generous dose of humor, a lot of action and a series of clues and leads which take some real unsuspected turns.

Before the mystery comes to a dramatic conclusion, each of the guests are invited to hand in their own solutions. Then, the Homicide Detective, in a suspense-filled final scene, ties all the pieces together and exposes the murderer or murderers -- much to the surprise and delight of the guests. A prize is then awarded to the most detail-oriented and accurate amateur sleuth.

What's included:
