I had reservations about this show: The Tubes have been around forever but - surprise, surprise - they still have it. During a two hour and 20 minute show, this hard working San Francisco band gave it their all - especially lead singer Fey Waybill. Always one of rock's animated lead singers, he must have done 10 coistune changes - including into his most famous character Quey Lude. Just a great night.

The Canyon club was really a great venue.....small & intimate. We booked a table for dinner to have a seat. If you don't mind standing for the evening, there is an open dance floor (almost no one was dancing)....all were standing up. The volume was LOUND!!! (Even with foam earplugs!). Enough to make your ears ring by the end of the night. Wish'd it wasn't so loud.

The venue has an interesting interior with table seating, an upper tier of VIP tables and a standing/dancing area. It's a comfy place to have drink and a bite with eclectic giant gold Buddahs,Burgundy drapery and modern star shaped lights/sound baffley things hanging from the ceiling.
That said, I sat in the "VIP" tier and found the acoustics terrible. The sound was loud but not clean. On the floor the sound was a little better, but not much. The Tubes started their set right on time with some of their classic numbers, but lacked the verve of those halcyon performances that people who love them would have hoped to see (no chainsaws, no theatrics). As so much of their music has to do with their clever lyrics, having a crisp sound system would probably have helped. I'm not a huge Tubes fan, but I went with a great attitude and enthusiasm , but they just didn't capture me with the music. The food at the Canyon is very average quality, and pricey with a prime rib steak entree at 39.00 and chicken at about 25.00. Lasagna was fresh from the freezer, lackluster, and about 24.00. Martinis, though tasty and much needed, were 9.00, and served in light weight plastic stemware, so hang on. At those prices you don't want to spill a drop.

Description

The Tubes were one of the cult favorites of the New Wave rock scene and they are still making music on the edge today.

Their live shows are a manic mixture of loud rock music, satirical lyrics, outrageous theatrics and burlesque.

Probably best known for their 1980's hit "She's a Beauty," the Tubes recorded a number of albums over the years and issued a greatest hits compilation in 2000.
