Legendary folk rocker Country Joe McDonald honors the legacy of Woody Guthrie in a special concert at The Canyon, featuring both Guthrie's words and music. McDonald has recorded 33 albums, including 1969's Thinking of Woody Guthrie, and co-founded pioneering psychedelic rock band Country Joe and the Fish, who made their mark with performances in the '60s and '70s at Woodstock and the Monterey Pop Festivals. Their biggest hit was the Vietnam War protest song, "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag." As a solo artist, McDonald has continued to bring attention to social and political issues through his original folk songs. 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of folk music pioneer Woody Guthrie, and McDonald is paying tribute both with live shows and a new CD.

Description

Political and ecological issues were set to musical accompaniment by Country Joe McDonald, who co-founded and led the psychedelic folk-rock band Country Joe & the Fish, the leading left-wing band of the '60s. Since the group's breakup in 1971, McDonald has continued to musically espouse his political views through his original, folk-like songs. Tonight, the legendary artist performs his tribute to the one and only Woody Guthrie.
