Spend an entertaining, down-home evening with Kurt Sutton, performing as master storyteller Samuel Clemens a.k.a. Mark Twain, as he brings his one-man tribute to The Canyon. Sutton's family-friendly and very funny show includes a sing-along of period songs like "Down in the Valley" and "Old-Time Religion," along with theatrical enactments of beloved stories from Huckleberry Finn, Roughing It and more. Sutton's portrayal of Twain follows years of research into the great American writer and humorist's life and works, including the speaking tours that formed the roots of modern stand-up comedy. Jefferson Starship played from it's roots throughout it's entire set, taking several pieces from the track of Surrealistic Pillow. The only exception was a driving song written by Richardson and performed by her with her powerful voice.
Highlights of the night included the band leaving Gold alone on the stage for five minutes while he performed his version of Jorma Kaukonen's "Embryonic Journey." Gold made it his own, extending and expanding the piece with some great riffs on his guitar...
Paul Kantner and David Freiberg were the only part of the band harkening back to their beginnings but they delivered well and powerfully, especially a couple of pieces sung by David Freiberg...rang to the rafters in the club....
