Love the Spazmatics. Hilarious and damn good at what they do: parroting the top 40 hits of the 1980s. They are fun and creative. If you get a chance GO. On the flipside, the Canyon club is still badly in need of a bathroom makover. BADLY. Men's room is a disgrace. No place that charges $35 for a meal should be allowed to have bathrooms that look like this. Not kidding--gross.Written on Dec 26 2011

These guys rock!! Lots of fun, but please guys--stop playing Footloose. Seriously. It was a crappy song 25 years ago and it is still a crappy song. Loved hearing The Smiths, How Soon is Now... lots of talent on the stage. Note to Canyon Club: please fix the doors on the stalls in the bathrooms--they do not lock. Also, please improve the between-sets and after-set beats. Gangster rap is *not* what we came there to hear. For crying out loud--play 80's stuff!! I mean, that should be obvious, right? Also, the show should start on time (and preferably a lot earlier!)--it never does.Written on Jan 10 2012

I heard great things about The Spazmatics from a friend - that it was his favorite cover band and fun to watch. I finally went to check em out and I'd have to agree. They were fun, great music selection that everyone was gettin down to, and hilarious characters/costumes. My favorite was the buck-toothed band geek.Written on Dec 16 2010
Details...
I'd never been to the Canyon Club until that night. It's a pretty big venue and nice inside. Parking is free which is a nice change of pace from the clubs in LA. Checked ID at the door, no problem with the tickets being at will call. The band didn't start when this event listing stated they would start but it was no big deal. I met up with some friends there and had drinks. Bartenders are attentive but prices are not that great. Other club-goers were very friendly and approachable so we were able to kill time until the band took the stage. There seems to be some older regulars but most of the crowd was in their 20s and 30s.
While waiting, the club played hip hop music but nobody was really dancing. After the band started, everyone got on the dancefloor to rock out. When the band took a short break midway, everyone started dancing to the hip hop music they played inbetween. Once the band was done, they played hip hop again and ppl were still on the dancefloor. So... for me, overall it was a fun night because I loved the band and I also love to dance so I got a good balance from this event.
What else...?
You can dress in pretty casual clothes like t-shirt & jeans. Bathroom was spacious and clean and you don't have to tip anyone for a towel to dry your hands with. Smoking allowed outside in the patio area of the club.
