When the mysterious and sultry Vanda walks into playwright Thomas Novachek's office, he thinks the search for the perfect lead in his latest production might finally be over. But her audition quickly turns into a seductive and erotic power play that'll make you wonder who's really running the show. Among the most acclaimed -- and most provocative -- new plays in recent Broadway history, David Ives' Venus in Fur blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, and love and sex. First of all, this is one of my very favorite shows ever! Having said that, I was worried about the professional level (or lack thereof) that this performance would have. My fears were completely unfounded.
This production was phenominal!! There are about 55 cast members who have beautiful voices. The staging for this difficult play was creative. The orchestra was very good. Fabulous costumes, too. My only complaint would be about the lighting, which has always been iffy in this auditorium.
Our Goldstar seats were in the 2nd row, center. Can't beat that!!
Based on the award-winning novel by E.L. Doctorow, Ragtime tells the story of America's "melting pot" through the lives of three ethnically diverse, multi-generational American families who unexpectedly become entwined. With powerful music and characters that draw you into their fascinating stories, Ragtime is a musical exploration of the dawn of the 20th century in America.
