Lend Me a Tenor: Hit Screwball Comedy Comes to Act II Playhouse
- Full Price:
- $33.00

Ken Ludwig, the rib-tickling playwright with the Midas Touch (see Moon Over Buffalo, Crazy For You, The Fox on the Fairway) had his first golden hit with Lend Me a Tenor, his Broadway debut. This Tony-nominated farce opens on the eve of an opera gala in Cleveland in 1934. When the Italian superstar set to headline the event suddenly goes missing, the show's impresario must scramble for a replacement. The ensuing confusion quickly turns into a hilarious screwball comedy, replete with double entendres, mistaken identifies and slamming doors. Jeffrey Coon, Tony Braithwaite and Tracie Higgins lead an accomplished cast in Act II Playhouse's production of this Broadway smash-hit. Learn More

Written on Dec 21 2011It was very funny and we enjpyed it.
Written on Dec 21 2011The premise was terrific - a family oriented holiday comedy musical variety show. The cast was witty, spontaneous and all were fine singers. What just wrecked the experience for our group was the expectation that this would be appropriate for children as well as adults. For goodness sake, a 5, 7 and 8 year old set of sisters on were not only in the audience, but also on stage for one of the segments. With these and other kids present, under the auspices of family friendliness, one skit had a depressed elf, after a cute-to-that-point skit of the rest of the cast helping him keep his poetry free of inappropriate language, finish his sanitized poem with the phrase - loud and clear, "GOD DAMN IT!" It was completely unnecessary. The skit could have ended where the elf explains that free verse doesn't have to rhyme. Can you imagine the cute but high-spirited 5 year old from the stage going home, getting frustrated with something, and bursting out with "GOD DAMN IT!"? Yeah, the family will be so glad they took her to this show. I was there with an exchange student. What a sad duty to explain that particular skit to her, after saying how this was a family show with no inappropriate language, etc, then have to retrench and tell her what words she SHOULDN'T learn from it. The rest of the show was great. There was no reason to have betrayed the families who came there with kids taking the description seriously about the clean content. Note to the producers and cast - please consider your young audience for the upcoming shows. Wishing you well, and hoping you take this review in a helpful spirit. The potential here is HUGE for a fun, family-friendly night. Spoiling the experience with one joke out of hundreds isn't worth it.
Written on Dec 21 2011We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were particularly impressed with the improvisation portions of the show...wonderful! The performers were all very gifted, and were able to draw in the crowd with references to local and national agendas, and topics that reflected the interests of various age groups. We went as a family of five, our three "children" all now being in university...we all thought it was great. We're not sure if every performance is the same because part of the charm of this one related to the particular audience guests that were chosen. Anyway, we highly recommend the show, and is fun for all ages, but we think most appropriate for high school and up.
