Oingo Boingo Halloween concerts were once a Southern California tradition, which ended with the band's last concert on Halloween of 1995. Ten years later, drummer Johnny Vatos revived the tradition with bandmates John Avila, Steve Bartek, Sam "Sluggo" Phipps and Doug Legacy, returning to a sold out show in Anaheim, and this year they are going to do it again. This is a chance to revive the Halloween tradition and rock out to classic Boingo tunes like "Dead Man's Party."

Great venue, good parking, easy exit acess, plenty of time to hang out before and after the event. Vatos took pictures with my nephews! Clean restrooms, lot's of security, Great sound system made for a great concert....even loved the opening band....not crazy about flying underwear though!

The Grove of Anaheim was a fun, smaller space (bigger than House of Blues, smaller than Nokia). Easy parking, lots of eating options within walking distance. It was mostly standing room with room to move, but there were some seats at the back of the house if you wanted to sit down. Johnny Vatos' Tribute to Halloween was a great night out for anyone who loves Oingo Boingo. And Oingo Boingo music is the perfect way to get in the mood for Halloween. I think there were 13 band members, including a horn section, a percussionist complete with bones and a propane tank, and 2 keyboardists. The whole band was in costume, except for the lead singer. Johnny was in a delicate cornflower blue dress which brought out his eyes... For some reason, at least from where we were standing (center, front of 3rd tier), the vocals were a bit muddy in the mix. Other than that, the band sounded fantastic, were high energy, and were really fun to watch! Thanks, Johnny! Thanks, Goldstar!

Description

The legendary music of the new wave group Oingo Boingo will be brought to life once again when Johnny Vato’s Tribute Halloween featuring former members of Oingo Boingo returns to the Grove of Anaheim.

Ten years after Oingo Boingo’s farewell Halloween show in 1995, Johnny Vatos, the drummer for Oingo Boingo decided to revive the music of the group and came up with the “Johnny Vatos Tribute to Halloween” concert concept. Fellow Oingo Boingo band members John Avila (bass), Steve Bartek (lead guitar), Sam "Sluggo" Phipps (sax) and Doug Legacy (keyboards) agreed to join Vatos in this venture. The end result was a sold out performance at the Grove of Anaheim in October 2005 dedicated to their biggest fans.

Four years later, the show will make its triumphant return to the Grove. Performing classic Oingo Boingo hits like “Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me,” “Wild Sex,” “Little Girls,” and “Goodbye Goodbye,” Johnny Vato’s Tribute Halloween Concert will feature a set list to die for. Fans will celebrate with demon-like intensity reminiscent of Oingo Boingo shows from Halloweens past.
Certain to be a “Dead Man’s Party,” don’t miss Johnny Vato’s Tribute Halloween Concert when it returns to the Grove of Anaheim.
