Joe Pendleton, an attractive prizefighter who refuses to admit that he's dead, is mistakenly transported to the afterlife in Heaven Can Wait. When it's discovered that Joe indeed isn't scheduled to arrive for another 60 years, an angel named Mr. Jordan is forced to find Joe a new body and return him to Earth. Written by Harry Segall, this smart romantic comedy delivers laughs and sincerity as it tackles questions of love, destiny and free will. In addition to this play, there have also been three film versions of this tale, including the Oscar-winning 1941 movie Here Comes Mr. Jordan starring Robert Montgomery, the eponymous 1978 version starring Warren Beatty and the 2001 film Down to Earth starring Chris Rock. Intimate venue with all good seats. Large cast (over a dozen) performing cleverly written parodies. There are numerous "regulars" if you have seen their shows before, and although a few performers were not as strong, and some lyrics muffed, that didn't diminish the enjoyment of the juicy material. I always marvel at the talent and dedication that these performers bring to these shows. It can't be for the money in such a small venue. The keyboard accompanist was an accomplished talent who drove the show, with its many moods and tempi. Go see.....lot's of laughs......You'll be glad you did.
