40 Oz to Freedom: A Tribute to Sublime ("What I Got," "Santeria,")
Winners of Best Tribute Band at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards, Sublime tribute 40 Oz to Freedom put the emphasis on album-accurate musical performances. Frontman Dane Scott not only sings like Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell, he plays guitar just as fiercely, too. And just like the original Sublime, 40 Oz to Freedom is a power trio, with Tom Burda on bass and backing vocals and Mark Leblanc on drums. The group's riffs, basslines and beats pulse through the SoCal reggae-ska-rock of such Sublime classics as "What I Got," "Santeria," "Wrong Way" and "Doin' Time."

The Grove is a challenging space to play in, and seating is uncomfortable since dinner tables are set up so that you end up sitting perpendicular to the stage. Certainly you can move your chair, but if it's a full house, it is hard to maneuver so that you are not blocking people.Shawn Colvin & Steve Earle: Songs & Stories, Together On Stage info • Jul 14 2014 star this tip starred
