Rooms: A Rock Romance is a gritty rock musical that tells the story of Monica, an ambitious singer-songwriter, and Ian, a hard-driving rocker. Written by Paul Scott Goodman (Bright Lights, Big City), Rooms traces the pair as their romantic and creative partnership is challenged when they journey from their native Glasgow to London and then, New York, seeking rock stardom. Patrick Pearson directs this West Coast premiere of the critically acclaimed musical, which contains some adult language and themes. Learn More

I really enjoyed this production much more than I expected to. Based on the theatre space itself, I was expecting it to be a little more amateur, but was pleasantly surprised at the professionalism of the actors.Written on Feb 11 2008
My favorite was Paul Kehler as John Wilkes Booth. Not only did he look and play the part well, he has an incredible singing voice. He was a delight to watch and listen to.
But for pure acting, I gotta give mad props to Dimas Diaz as Samuel Byck. His monologues were great, and I really believed the role. Another standout from the acting perspective was David Lamoureux as Leon Czolgosz. Wonderful.
And overall I have to say I really liked Allison Appleby's quirky take on Sara Jane Moore, as well as Emily Clark's Squeaky Fromme. I really enjoyed watching them throughout the entire show.
As a sidenote, let me just say I was impressed at the number of things Richard Comeau as Charles Guiteau can do with a couple of feet of rope. It was great choreography on that scene.
It was a delightful show, but if I had to pick one thing that really bugged me, it was a strange sequence in which Czolgosz had a conversation with turn-of-the-century female anarchist Emma Goldman, who was played by the very-much male Paul Kehler.
Now I know I said I really like Paul Kehler, but not for a female role. I'm sorry, but that scene was really, really strange. I don't know if it was written that way, or whether it was cast that way by the Chance. I don't know why they didn't use Allison or Emily in that scene, since they weren't doing anything else during that scene.
But I'm not going to let that bizarre scene prevent me from recommending this show. Go see it!

This production of Assassins is well worth seeing. The venue is quite nice and there was use of multimedia throughout the show which added to historic theme. Bob Simpson as the Balladeer keeps the show moving and Allison Appleby, Emily Clark and David Lamoureux are splended. This show is not seen often and if you have never seen it........this is quite a good introduction.Written on Mar 14 2008

One of the least audience friendly Sondheim plays in my view, well executed and well worth seeing. In a post 9-11 era-frightening!!! and more relevant than ever.Written on Feb 14 2008
