Godspell is the greatest story ever told as you've never seen it before. In this updated version of the beloved classic -- recently a hit Broadway revival -- Grammy and Oscar-winning composer Stephen Schwartz (Pippin) has revised his rousing and eclectic sore, which features everything from ragtime to rap. As conceived by Lyric Arts resident director Robert Neu, this Vaudeville-inspired production is a hilarious yet meaningful reimagining of the Gospel of Matthew that brings the story of Christ to a whole new generation in a fun and accessible way. While the overall production was very well done, I wasn't fully satisfied with the actor playing Willie; he was a little too polished, as if the actor was used to playing roles in musicals rather than drama. The rest of the cast was outstanding, especially Biff and the mother. I would not hesitate to recommend this show, esp. given the low price of admission.
