It may be known as "the fastest two minutes in sports," but Santa Anita Park is celebrating the world-famous Kentucky Derby with a full day's worth of racing, live music, activities and more. Make your bets and hold your breath as you take in a live simulcast of the pulse-pounding Kentucky Derby, then root for hometown hopeful California Chrome as he runs for the roses in Santa Anita Park. Between races, enjoy live bluegrass at the swinging infield craft beer garden. You can even show off your derby spirit with Santa Anita's first annual Kentucky Derby Hat Contest, featuring $1,000 in cash prizes up for grabs. Choose between a General Package that includes beer garden admission, two beer vouchers plus a tip sheet and program, or the special VIP Package, which includes four drink vouchers, a commemorative T-shirt and cup, food courtesy of Gus's BBQ, VIP betting and backstage access, along with access to a premium bar serving happy-hour priced drinks all day long. This was a ROAR event! Top notch. Everything at this event was first class, from the parking, breakfast, to the open access to the facilities. Wish more of these events were available. Shooting photos was a breeze and the facilities are excellent.
Whether you are a beginner or a professional, historic Santa Anita Park is hosting a one of a kind photography day. Be at Santa Anita Park by 7:30am to register and then shoot at Clocker’s Corner. With the backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains and hundreds of horses working out, it’s the perfect setting. When workouts conclude, breakfast will be served around 10:00am followed by a Q & A with track photographers, trainers and management. Each person will have one of a kind access to the paddock and Winner’s Circle.
