Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson's Seven Guitars is a haunting exploration of the African-American experience in 20th-century America. The year is 1948, and blues singer Floyd "Schoolboy" Barton has just been released from jail. He's ready to jump-start his life -- in work and in love -- but fate intervenes in disastrous ways. Floyd's tale leads to the stories of other African Americans who share a neighborhood and dreams for a brighter future. Filled with lush language and remarkable characters, this rich, riveting drama is one of Wilson's most beloved -- and unforgettable -- works. No Rules Theatre Company's production of Seven Guitars is directed by Michele Shay, who was nominated for the 1996 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in the Broadway production of this very same show. Holiday theme songs with interesting arrangements. Three vocalists (plus guitar player sang a couple of songs). Trio of musicians. About 75 minutes. Enjoyable. Worth the price with Goldstar discount, otherwise probably not. Venue has about 10 small cafe tables near the stage, the rest of the seating is folding chairs on risers with a ledge for drinks & food. See Signature's website for the drink and food choices. Not bad for snacking, but not dinner.

Intimate show in the Signature's Ark venue, a cabaret where there are tables or seating with a convenient shelf for beverages. Do bring a beverage in with you as it is a fun option for the show. performers are great but the guitarist is amazing....continued
