WSC Avant Bard presents a new adaptation of Les Justes (The Just Ones), by Algerian writer/philosopher Albert Camus. Based on the true story of a group of Russian Revolutionaries who assassinated the Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich in 1905, Les Justes is an eerily relevant exploration of politically-motivated violence. Les Justes speaks volumes to modern audiences, as we face high-profile murders and political assassinations in today's world. Rahaleh Nassri, who acted in WSC's productions of Caligula and Titus Andronicus, translated and adapted the piece, which will be directed by Jay Hardee, director of WSC's The Gnadiges Fraulein, Richard III, and Every Young Woman's Desire.

It was a long 90 minutes. The story was boring but several actors were hyper-active. Two puzzles:
1. Why did character looking out window bounce up and down?
2. Why did the female lead have holes in her sweater?

We love this company and have seen them doing many great performances; but this isn't one for the books. See Nelson Pressley's Feb 14 WP review; it's spot on. A good effort, but comes across as too forced. Not a painful experience but lacking; maybe more the writing but also the acting. Take in the Freda Kahlo exhibit while you're there.

Powerful script, really good performances and a terrific set. I anticipate going back to Artisphere to see other shows or exhibits; it seems like they've got a lot going on. Our group ate at "Thunder" in Georgetown - delicious - and walked across the Key Bridge to the venue.

Great acting and presentation of this ever present tension in our history and world. So much better than the overpriced and overrated REDS I saw earlier in the week.
