Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson's Seven Guitars is a haunting exploration of the African-American experience in 20th-century America. The year is 1948, and blues singer Floyd "Schoolboy" Barton has just been released from jail. He's ready to jump-start his life -- in work and in love -- but fate intervenes in disastrous ways. Floyd's tale leads to the stories of other African Americans who share a neighborhood and dreams for a brighter future. Filled with lush language and remarkable characters, this rich, riveting drama is one of Wilson's most beloved -- and unforgettable -- works. No Rules Theatre Company's production of Seven Guitars is directed by Michele Shay, who was nominated for the 1996 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her role in the Broadway production of this very same show. Great way to spend a leisurely summer evening in Arlington. Great performances and I enjoyed the fact the tunes weren't the same tired old chesnuts we hear over and over again. The direction was great, the performers outstanding, the pianist was amazing...I'm ready for the next one!
