Bold, brassy and remarkably charming, Gypsy's Momma Rose puts today's Dance Moms to shame. Sherri L. Edelen (The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Company, Hairspray) plays Mama Rose, the ultimate stage mom, who grooms her two daughters to be stars on the waning 1920s vaudeville circuit, only to see one of them leave her behind to become a burlesque sensation. With book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Gypsy features crowd-pleasing classics like "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Let Me Entertain You," "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" and the show-stopping "Rose's Turn." Great way to spend a leisurely summer evening in Arlington. Great performances and I enjoyed the fact the tunes weren't the same tired old chesnuts we hear over and over again. The direction was great, the performers outstanding, the pianist was amazing...I'm ready for the next one!
