The acting was compelling and the script prompted much dialogue after the play. I think that the discussions after the play that have been scheduled for upcoming performances will be interesting to attend.

Very Entertaining. I encourage men in particular to see this show; bring a son, brother, nephew or protégé. A fast moving telling of several loosely related stories which pleasingly evolve into a thought provoking, powerful message. Intelligent theater delivered without gimmicks or risky material matter…Just a great script and superb acting!

Description

<p>Resurrection
</p> <p>a world premiere drama
by Daniel Beaty
music by Daniel Bernard Roumain
directed by Oz Scott
a co-production with Hartford Stage</p> <p>In a unique blend of music, poetry, and dance, Daniel Beaty brings us six show-stopping characters -- from Eric, a budding child scientist, to The Bishop, the leader of a mega church, to his son Isaac, a corporate executive. The stories of these African American men collide one evening in an unforgettable look at identity, relationships and, above all, our human connections.</p> <p>The author of Emergence-SEE!, Daniel Beaty won the 2007 OBIE Award for Outstanding Writing and Performance and dazzled Arena audiences last summer with a sold-out run of the show. He returns to Arena with a talented cast of six actors, as well as Oz Scott, who originally directed For Colored Girls... on Broadway, and Daniel Bernard Roumain, a Haitian-American composer who fuses classical violin with a variety of unlikely soundscapes. Don’t miss this chance to be exhilarated by a new voice in the American Theater—one whose writing is extolled by The New York Times as “compassionate and precise".</p>

About the Ticket Supplier: Arena Stage

Arena Stage today stands as a flagship American theater. Arena Stage was one of the first not-for-profit theaters in the United States, as well as a pioneer of the regional theater movement. It was the first regional theater to transfer a production to Broadway, the first invited by the U.S. State Department to tour behind the Iron Curtain, and the first to receive a Tony Award. Taking a leadership role in extending theater's horizons, Arena Stage has implemented groundbreaking policies and programs, promoting diversity in all aspects of theater, from theatergoing to production.

The Arena Stage legacy of world-class productions includes vast epics, charged dramas, rousing musicals, and probing profiles. From the monumental to the developmental, Arena Stage has helped build the canon of American theater. While they produce American classics, Arena Stage premieres new American plays and supported works in progress. They've nurtured artistic growth and engaged the community, broadening and intensifying the theatrical experience for one and all. And yet, in spite of it all, in their second half-century they see themselves as more fresh, restless and dynamic than ever.
