Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Princess and the Pea" comes to vivid life via the delightful musical Once Upon a Mattress. Winnifred is just an ordinary, high-spirited girl who wants to escape her childhood home: a swamp. Driven by true love, she swims the castle moat to be with the young Prince Dauntless the Drab, her knight in shining armor. However, before they can marry, his overprotective mother concocts a secret test that the young princess must pass to prove she's royalty: Sleeping atop a pile of 20 mattresses, Winnifred doesn't realize that the queen has placed a tiny pea beneath them and waits to see if she can detect it -- as only real royalty would. Will Winnifred fall prey to the queen's schemes, or will she prove more clever? This riotous romp is performed by a cast of rising stars, from 10th graders to college students and adults. Learn More

This production was excellent! We took our 5-year old granddaughter to see it and she was enthralled. The acting was excellent, as was the stage production. After the play the actors signed programs, which was very special for the kids. Also, the school auditorium was a great venue for this play and we appreciated that there was a big parking lot which made entry/exit very simple. Finally, all the support staff (at the will-call window, in the lobby, ushers, etc.) were friendly and helpful. We'll definitely attend another performance here, especially with 1/2 price tickets from Goldstar!
