Set during the rural economic slowdown of the 1970s, playwright Sam Shepard's universally acclaimed Buried Child resonates as strongly today as it did when it launched Shepard's career in 1978. A Pulitzer winner for drama, Buried Child makes for a fierce, forceful and unforgettable portrayal of the realities of the American Dream. The realistic masterpiece mixes comedy and drama, keen commentary and deep emotion in a squalid farm home occupied by a clan filled with suppressed violence, apparent unhappiness and dark secrets. Kenneth Kelleher directs this San Jose Stage Company production. Learn More

The "16 and up" advice is good, but our 16 year old enjoyed it very much.

Very moody and atmospheric. The performer portraying Jonathan wasn't the best, but the other cast members were all very good. The dancing was excellent, as were the costuming and stage design. They got a little carried away with the smoke machine again, but not as badly as they did with Midsummer Night's Dream.Written on Dec 03 2009

Another great show by the Synetic Theatre group. How they manage to not end up with broken extremities is beyond me. Great stage direction, great work by these young people. As a senior citizen who wouldn't think of attempting these acrobatics, I remain thrilled that humans can actually do this. Fantastic. Highly recommended. Charlie H.Written on Oct 26 2009

I had trouble following the plot. There was too much dance and not enough words. The tumbling in the fight sequences was fun.Written on Oct 20 2009

Enjoyed it more than I expected based on attendance at previous performances (notably the appalling "Dante's Divine Comedy"). Excellent staging and dancing, average acting -- Synetic's usual weak point. The adaptation was reasonably close to the Dracula plot, but I can see where someone who has never read the novel would have a hard time following it. I recommend it -- but only if you get cut-price tickets. Not worth paying full price for.Written on Oct 27 2009

Based on the novel by Bram Stoker
Adapted by Nathan Weinberger
Directed by Paata Tsikurishvili
Choreographed by Irina Tsikurishvili
Set and Costume Design by Anastasia R. Simes

Immediately following the extension of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Synetic will reinvent and restage one of the most successful productions in its history. A smash hit both at The Kennedy Center and at the Rosslyn Spectrum, Dracula is back with fresh energy and vigor. Company member Dan Istrate performs the title role in a show featuring some of Synetic's most heart-pounding choreography and drama.
From vampiric wolves howling in the Transylvanian night to the erotic blood-lust of the demonic Count and his consorts, Bram Stoker's gothic dreamscape has stood the test of time in the imaginations of innumerable artists, and now Synetic Theater takes its place among them. Multiple Helen Hayes Award winners Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili lend their ferocious theatricality to a Dracula that is not to be missed. Synetic presents a new restaging of the acclaimed 2005 production--a tale of horror and the undying strength of the human spirit.
