Costa Rica's Teatro La Polea comes to Gunston Arts Center with its sensational hit, The Immigrant / El Inmigrante. Written and directed by César Meléndez and based on actual events, the play tells the story of a Nicaraguan immigrant who arrives in Costa Rica hoping to find a better life. His sole companion, friend, advisor and guide is Jesus on the crucifix that he carried across the border. Tender and violent in equal measure, this stunning one-man show is a fascinating exploration into the plight of immigrants in Central America -- and the world. Also performed under the title El Nica, it has been seen by audiences throughout Latin America, the U.S. France and Spain. It's performed in Spanish with live English dubbing.

A delicious comedy of errors that uses the classic love triangle as the base for an intelligent theatrical game that examines a failure to communicate and the freedom of man, Las Quiero a las Dos/I Want Them Both is a hilarious look at marriage in a time of economic crisis. Returning favorites Yovinca Arredondo and Karen Morales-Chacana bring a dash of humor and sexiness to their roles and Peter Pereyra is the lucky man caught between them. Performed in Spanish with English supertitles, Las Quiero a las Dos is an engaging, joyous game of romance that crosses all language barriers. Learn More
