The Immigrant / El Inmigrante
The Immigrant / El Inmigrante: A Political Drama by César Meléndez
Costa Rica's Teatro La Polea comes to Gunston Arts Center with its sensational hit, The Immigrant / El Inmigrante
. Written and directed by César Meléndez and based on actual events, the play tells the story of a Nicaraguan immigrant who arrives in Costa Rica hoping to find a better life. His sole companion, friend, advisor and guide is Jesus on the crucifix that he carried across the border. Tender and violent in equal measure, this stunning one-man show is a fascinating exploration into the plight of immigrants in Central America -- and the world. Also performed under the title El Nica
, it has been seen by audiences throughout Latin America, the U.S. France and Spain. It's performed in Spanish with live English dubbing.

if you know your way around that area I recommend Cafe Caryle is Shirlington. We had a delightful brunch outdoors on a warm Sunday afternoon just before the show and then had about a 10 minute drive to the theater.
