There is no world more intimate -- or more dangerous -- than that which exists between two people in love. Dramatic journeys into this territory are among the most powerful in theater history, from Strindberg's Dance of Death to Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? But none are half as daring as Philip Ridley's mesmerizing Tender Napalm which dives headlong into a couple's imaginary world. The play's two characters are Man and Woman -- lovers who savagely fight for the upper hand in their relationship in the face of an unnamed tragedy. Never leaving their insular world, the young couple lives out a series of wild fantasies, transcending time and space in a violent and sexually charged tapestry of what was and what is to be. This is a great series that Signature puts on. Thoroughly enjoyed last year's Lost Broadway: The 1970s so I knew this year's 1980s edition would be fantastic. And it was. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was due to the know-it-all theatre queen sitting behind us who wouldn't shut up the entire time. Also, this is something that Signature should start recording because so many of these tunes are truly "lost" other than grainy YouTube videos.

February 26-28 and March 1, 2014 at 8:00pm: The Lost Songs of Broadway – 1980s
The 1980s were larger-than-life: big hair, neon fashion and blockbuster musicals. However, the extravagant decade that brought Les Miserables_, Cats and The Phantom of the Opera_ to the Broadway stage also produced smaller gems, such as Tom Foolery, Smile and Busboys and Dinettes. In the spirit of the previous Lost Songs cabarets, Signature rediscovers some of the best songs that time forgot. Featuring Signature All-Stars Maria Egler (Holiday Follies_), Stephen Gregory Smith (_Miss Saigon, The Boy Detective Fails_) and Nova Y. Payton (_Crossing, Dreamgirls, Hairspray), this is an evening you don’t want to miss!
