This scrumdiddlyumptious stage show is based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl's timeless and beloved children's book, as well as the subsequent musical film adaptation (Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory) starring Gene Wilder. Featuring some of the infectious songs from the classic film -- including catchy tunes like "The Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination" -- this take on Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka adds some brand new original songs into the mix. So grab your golden ticket and go behind the closed doors of Mr. Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory with Charlie Bucket, discovering one Oompa Loompa doopi-delicious delight after the next (with a hearty dash of peril thrown in for good measure) on this one-of-a-kind journey. Well done! Despite the rather gruesome topic, there are plenty of light moments, clever and poignant music. Everyone did a good job; performances by Brian Clowdus (Booth, throughout), Michael Henry Harris (Byck's driving rant) and Steve Hudson (Guiteau going to the gallows) were especially memorable.
This production is recommended for those ages 17 and older due to strong language and adult content.
