One Night With Janis Joplin: 4th of July Fireworks & BBQ
- Full Price:
- $108.00
- Our Price:
- $105.00
One Night With Janis Joplin adds some actual Fourth of July fireworks to the musical ones produced on stage, with a post-show barbeque buffet on the Arena Stage terrace -- a prime viewing spot for the famed pyrotechnics launched on the National Mall. First up is the show, a part-concert, part-theatrical event that captures Janis Joplin's life and legacy in all its live intensity. Mary Bridget Davies stars as the rock legend in a performance that has audiences dancing in the aisles and critics raving. Featuring powerful musical numbers including "Piece of My Heart, "Summertime" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as one song Joplin never formally recorded, One Night boasts a full band and a cast including Sabrina Elayne Carten, who plays Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. After the performance, you'll move outside the theater for food and drinks, along with the fireworks viewing. Please see the full event description for the buffet menu. Learn More

Written on Jun 25 2012It was extremely hot! So it was nice that they provided water throughout the event. IT would have been awesome if there was some sort of misting fans to help! But all in all the event was great!
Written on Jun 25 2012I enjoyed myself but it was overcrowded creating limited space to grab some shade and long beer lines.
Written on Jun 25 2012Great music and plenty of beer for all. One of the best beer festivals I've been to yet.
Written on Jun 25 2012Not at all what I was expecting. I was excited for the event and expected it to be a day of sampling many delicious beers from an organized group of vendors and attended by a more refined clientele. Instead, it was a woefully disorganized event, which, in essence, was a free-for-all.
The first reg flag was the cups provided to patrons, which were plastic and far too large for sampling (I never thought I would say that a cup of beer was TOO LARGE). A true tasting of beers would provide smaller units made of glass for patrons to experience more fully the flavor of the beers and to be able to sample a larger volume of beers.
Next, the event was embarrassingly disorganized. What beer would you expected to be served under the Leinenkugel's tent?......well, you'd be wrong. After standing in a long line for almost 8 minutes, I learned that Leinenkugel's was being served on the other side of the beer truck, under the Sierra Nevada tent (...I was able to get an Anchor Summer Beer, which softened the blow). It also seemed that far fewer vendors attended the event that were advertised. I could not find Abita, Ommegang, Mother Earth, or any local breweries.
The venue itself is partially responsible for the disappointing display. The sloping lawn of the Masquerade makes it difficult to set up vendors and efficiently utilize space. There were shade tents set up directly in front of vendors making it very difficult to make it to certain vendors because patrons were sheltering themselves from the sunlight. This is the 2nd sub-standard event I've attended at the Masquerade (the first being St. Patrick's Day) and I will never find myself going back there for any outdoor events again.
Finally, I found myself annoyed by many attendees of the event. While, I did meet a few very interesting individuals, the places seemed overwrought with fools who found it acceptable to leave their homes wearing designer wife-beaters and taco costumes (it's not Halloween, buddy), to play frisbee in the middle of moving crowds and to whack each other in the testicles for sport. Such a low brau audience is not what I expect to encounter when attending a beer festival. I suppose there were no frat parties going on that day.
Written on Jun 25 2012What a great time! Will be attending the next one for sure!
