Members Who Went Said:I was told not to expect NFL action in arena football but the game is played with a lot of intensity and the smaller playing field makes for a high scoring game. There were many fan give-aways and it is obvious that the Mariner organization cares about the fans. It was very enjoyable and we will definitely return.
Walt Hanks It's a much more intimate way to watch sports. The athletes have a lot of energy and the fans have a lot of fun.
Stacey Mitchell-Brown Justwrite85 As a real football fan, I thought I may not like this, but boy was I wrong. The seats were great! The kids loved how close they were to ALL the action!! Trust me, if you go once you'll be hooked for life!! Now I'm sorry I waited until the final game to go. Oh well, can't wait until the new season begins! Go Mariners!!! |

More Details About This Event: The Baltimore Mariners are coming off their first franchise victory against a tough South Carolina team, the Florence Phantoms. Leading the Mariners' offensive attack is quarterback Mike Orihel. Orihel, who was 73-8 as a starter throughout his high school and collegiate career, and spent two months with the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul last season. He will have a big, experienced offensive line in front of him. Greg Justice (6’ 8”, 320), who played for Reading last season, and Jake Helms (6’ 8”, 360), from the Carolina Speed, did not give up a single sack between them last season. Nick Romeo, an All-American from Syracuse, will anchor the center position. Leading the receiving core is former Virginia Tech receiver Richard Johnson, a member of the Hokies' 2004 ACC Championship team. At fullback will be Jason Crawford, a former starter for the Maryland Terrapins.
The Baltimore Mariners defense is built for speed. The defensive line will be led by ends Alfred Dubose and Arlan Johnson. Dubose was the AIFA’s sack leader and Johnson led last season’s Baltimore team in sacks. Joe Macaluso, another former Reading player, and Neil Wood, an AIFA All-Star will secure the linebacker position for the Mariners. Another AIFA All-Star, Archie Smith, will lead Baltimore’s secondary. In their first game in front of a loud, sold-out crowd of 6,800, the team began its inaugural AIFA journey with a hard-fought 36-27 defeat to last year's league finalist, Reading Express. The Mariners have much they can build on, if the opening game is any indication. “I saw some good signs for the future,” said Mariners coach Chris Simpson. “Our guys showed they can compete with the best in the AIFA right now. We have some work to do, but we will be fine.” 2008 Schedule 4/12: Baltimore Mariners vs. Mississippi MudCats 4/25: Baltimore Mariners vs. Erie RiverRats 5/10: Baltimore Mariners vs. Carolina Speed 5/30: Baltimore Mariners vs. Florida Stingrays 6/14: Baltimore Mariners vs. Canton Legends 6/23: Baltimore Mariners vs. Reading Express About Baltimore Mariners: The Baltimore Mariners is an expansion team of the American Indoor Football Association, having begun play in 2007.
