More Details About This Event: In a Friday night game, the Baltimore Orioles take on their AL East rivals, the Toronto Blue Jays. Enjoy the game, then stick around for a spectacular fireworks display amid the picturesque scenes of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, frequently voted the best stadium in baseball.
About Baltimore Orioles: One of the American League's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1901. Then the Milwaukee Brewers (not to be confused with the current Milwaukee Brewers, which began as an expansion team, the Seattle Pilots, in 1969 before moving to Wisconsin in 1970), moved to St. Louis in 1902 and became the St. Louis Browns. It was not until 1954 that the Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Orioles. About Oriole Park at Camden Yards: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the beautiful baseball-only facility in downtown Baltimore, became the official home of the Orioles on April 6, 1992.Oriole Park is state-of-the-art yet unique, traditional and intimate in design. It blends with the urban context of downtown Baltimore while taking its image from baseball parks built in the early 20th century. Steel, rather than concrete trusses, an arched brick facade, a sun roof over the gentle slope of the upper deck, an asymmetrical playing field, and natural grass turf are just some of the features that tie it to those magnificent big league ballparks built in the early 1900's. Ebbets Field (Brooklyn), Shibe Park (Philadelphia), Fenway Park (Boston), Crosley Field (Cincinnati), Forbes Fields (Pittsburgh), Wrigley Field (Chicago), and The Polo Grounds (New York) were among the ballparks that served as powerful influences in the design of Oriole Park. |
