Exciting young Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth and pianist Bretton Brown make some beautiful music together with pieces written especially for the trumpet-piano duo, as well as other orchestral works, songs and arias Helseth adapted for her instrument. "I can't lie on the floor and cry and call Beethoven and ask, 'Why didn't you write a trumpet concerto?'" she told London's The Telegraph. That inventive approach results in a melodic, song-laden second half of the program, with works by Ravel, Sibelius, Kurt Weill and Manuel De Falla, whose Seven Popular Spanish Songs she lists as among her favorites compositions to perform live. Bretton is an award-winning pianist, Yale graduate and Juilliard doctoral fellow, who's previously collaborated with Helseth at The Apple Store SoHo and on Sirius XM.
