Baltimore's own Soulful Symphony celebrates the season with an orchestral-vocal concert at the Hippodrome featuring fun holiday favorites, traditional carols and even adaptations of The Messiah and Nutcracker. Founded in 2000 by award-winning pianist-composer-conductor Darin Atwater, this 85-member ensemble is dedicated to preserving African-American cultural expression through all kinds of music, from classical to jazz, and gospel to pop. Atwater served as the Baltimore Symphony's composer-in-residence from '04-'07, and continues to create acclaimed large-scale works including The Audacity of Hope, based on the book by President Obama. It was a good play, but goldstar users are given the "least desired" seats, way in the back nose bleed section. very difficult to see at times because we were so far away. I closed my eyes for half the show just to listen to the music because i couldn't see much.
