Showcasing Cole Porter's signature wit and masterful composition, Roundabout Theatre Company's Tony-winning production of Anything Goes features beloved songs such as "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "You're the Top." This timeless tale of boy-meets-girl and the resulting roller coaster ride centers on Billy Crocker, who falls hopelessly in love with a wealthy heiress. When he sees her boarding a boat to London, he throws caution to the wind and becomes a stowaway. Madcap hijinks ensue when his fellow passengers, including the evangelist-turned-nightclub-singer Reno Sweeney and second-rate gangster Moonface Martin, decide to help Billy win his true love. view more less of this review"Fiddler...", the show itself, is a great show. One of the best, really. This production unfortunately, did not do it justice. For a show that is supposed to embody Jewish life and culture, this one felt oddly "Waspish" on many occasions. Their "Tevye" did an adequate job but he was, at times, unconvincing, as were "Yenta" and "Golde." The tempi of several of the songs were too fast, making me feel like they (the musical director? the actors?)just didn't get it. The dream scene was a highlight, though, displaying abundant creativity and humor, and the live band was fine, although I wasn't crazy about some of the orchestrations.

Although the entire cast is not the best, the main character is fantastic and makes up for some of the flaws in some of the secondary characters.
I will totally recommend this to anyone who likes musicals.

star this review starred report as inappropriateThe show was very good but I forgot the reason why we do not go to the Lyric anymore--I am an average size person and the chairs were very tight and it is hard to see over someone's head that is a little bigger than you. We will not go to the Lyric and will continue to go to the Hippodrome.
