Mad Men descends onto BAM. From lounge music and martinis to (candy) cigarettes and Black Jack, this time capsule party will shoot you back to the 1960s when glamorous hairstyles ruled and George Nelson was well on his way to becoming one of the most celebrated designers of the century. Ask yourself, "Would Don Draper approve?" and dress in your vintage best. Entertainment will be provided by Seattle's torch and lounge legends the Nightcaps, KEXP DJ Greg Vandy and the fabulous Plaid Men will perform improv. Martinis and other vintage cocktails will be available at the cash bar and there will be prizes for the best Mad Men costumes.

One Night With Janis Joplin adds some actual Fourth of July fireworks to the musical ones produced on stage, with a post-show barbeque buffet on the Arena Stage terrace -- a prime viewing spot for the famed pyrotechnics launched on the National Mall. First up is the show, a part-concert, part-theatrical event that captures Janis Joplin's life and legacy in all its live intensity. Mary Bridget Davies stars as the rock legend in a performance that has audiences dancing in the aisles and critics raving. Featuring powerful musical numbers including "Piece of My Heart, "Summertime" and "Mercedes Benz," as well as one song Joplin never formally recorded, One Night boasts a full band and a cast including Sabrina Elayne Carten, who plays Bessie Smith, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. Really fun event, loved the casino games. A few people didn't dress up but it was still a great night. I think the event should of went til midnight and they never announced the winners of the best dressed. They could of used another drink station and two more bartenders, but all in all a good event!
