I enjoyed the ballet. However, it got somewhat confusing as to who is dancing the women roles.

Formally organized in 1994, the Guangzhou Ballet has already produced over a dozen accomplished programs embracing both Western classics and original ballets based on Chinese themes. The company has participated in memorable collaborations with the Chinese National Opera; performed before cheering audiences in Cuba, Spain, France, Germany, Australia, and Canada; and won awards from the Paris, Moscow, and Helsinki international dance competitions.

For its Berkeley visit, the ensemble will present its full-length production of Mei Lanfang, an inspired work based on the life of the legendary Peking Opera performer who shaped the art of Chinese theater for generations. Mei Lanfang has been praised internationally for its elaborate sets and costumes, as well as its captivating score by Liu Tingyu and the innovative choreography of Fu Xingbang and Zhang Dandan (the group's artistic director).
