Great seats! I'm new to classical music, and it was great to hear recognizable pieces. The audiences enthusiasm made a big difference too (e.g. there were 2 encores!)Written on Nov 21 2008

Great orchestra, memorable soloist, very interesting selections and moving encores - Bravo! and come back more often, please. Such great ensemble definitely deserves better promotion, resulting in sold out hall.Written on Dec 24 2008

The musicians were great! Too bad they amplified it so much at Zellerbach - it hurt my sensitive ears. It was especially nice to hear the Israeli symphony in person.Written on Nov 22 2008

Description
Toch/Big Ben Variations
Rózsa/Violin Concerto, Op. 24
Copland/Symphony No. 3
Reflecting the character and identity of Israel's diverse population, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra—one of the country's oldest and most important musical institutions—visits Berkeley with a special program honoring the 60th Anniversaries of both the Orchestra and the founding of the State of Israel. Under the dynamic creative vision of music director Leon Botstein, the program spotlights music by three contemporary Jewish composers, including Aaron Copland's stirring Third Symphony with its thunderous conclusion based on his Fanfare for the Common Man, as well as Ernst Toch's tour de force Big Ben Variations. Appearing with the orchestra is Grammy nominated violinist Robert McDuffie.
