Catch a rising playwright during the Monday Night PlayGround series at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. For each PlayGround, a writing topic is announced to a pool of Bay Area playwrights, inviting the submission of original ten-page plays. The best six of these plays are presented as staged readings before a live audience on the third Monday of each month featuring some of the Bay Area's best directors and actors. Pre-show discussions provide additional insight into the writers' processes, the state of Bay Area theater and other aspects that emerge from the monthly topics. With a particular focus on the ten-minute form, PlayGround creates a microcosm of the greater theater scene, allowing for experimentation and risk-taking as well as the honing of style and technique.
