As music director for the famed San Francisco Opera since 2009, Italian maestro Nicola Luisotti has been hailed by audiences and praised by the press. The San Francisco Chronicle even calls him "a blast to watch in action." He leads his acclaimed orchestra in a varied program, including symphonies by Prokofiev and Cherubini and Haydn's Cello Concerto, featuring soloist Amit Peled. Luisotti joined the San Francisco Opera after working with many of the most respected companies in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and La Scala. Experience the sights and sounds of modern and ancient China with One World, One Dream, an Olympic spectacular featuring one hundred Chinese student performing artists. Combining music, dance, theater, martial arts and acrobatics, this high-energy production traces the history of the Olympics down through the centuries. Highlights include Chinese acrobats dating from the second century B.C.E.; Peking Opera techniques and costumes; and traditional musical instruments juxtaposed with up-to-the-minute modern musical instruments, staging and music.
Berkeley is one of only two U.S. cities to host this spectacular production which has been performed extensively in China, and is an invitation to all Americans to attend the Olympic Games in Beijing this summer.
