The stage at Black Repertory Group lights up with the fiery sounds and spicy beats of Picante Soul, a night of blues and jazz with a sassy Mississippi diva and a hot Latin percussionist. The Bay Area's own Faye Carol remains true to her Mississippi roots, infusing the blues into everything from Cole Porter to Michelle Legrand. John Santos, a five-time Grammy-nominated percussionist, is one of the foremost exponents of Afro-Latin music in the world today. Born in San Francisco, he's played with a who's who of talent from all over the jazz world. Together, this pair will make for an amazing combination.

Very positive and powerful in a variety of ways including the message of non-violence, the venue itself and, of course, the musicians including Ms. Faye Carol.

The music was fabulous! The singer did some unusual music which I found great. The combo accompanying the singer was wonderful as well. The venue....warm welcoming people at the door. They served food with the price of the ticket. Sadly, the crowd was small for the 9:00 performance! The 7:00 o'lcock performance had a larger crowd. My friend and I attend a Blues Club in Chicago in May and found the music at Black Repertory much better quality.

While it took a few songs for everyone to groove together, in the end, Ms Faye hit her stride to show that she is indeed a valued presence in our Bay Area jazz scene.
This theater group apparently fosters programs that reach out to underprivileged groups in the neighborhood and should be recognized and supported by more. We should all contribute to those who help others, and one way would be to attend more of their events.

The show was excellent even though they started 1/2 hour late, typical for the venue.
