Performed by 6th-12th grade students in Berkeley Conservatory youth programs, Pippin is the lively coming-of-age story of King Charlemagne's oldest son. Featuring music from the award-winning composer of Wicked and Godspell, this dazzlingly colorful and imaginative tale first captivated audiences on Broadway with its '70s rock score, and this production updates the action with acrobatics and aerial dancing.

I enjoyed the production a lot. The production moved along quickly and kept my attention. Even though the production was middle and high school actors and actresses, many of the performances were just terrific.

This was a student production (middle and high school students) so the vocal performances were uneven, but the acting was great and the kids were cute! My 11-year-old liked it too.

This was a youth performance, attended mostly by parents of the performers. It was a glitzy performance for the age group.

Cheery, well costumed kids who gave their all to perform this well -scripted, well-introduced blockbuster. One could see the Fosse influence in the beautiful entry of the two sides, the band-dancers, the juggling, and the aerial foray.

Berkeley Playhouse Conservatory Presents
Pippin

Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz – the composer of musical hit- Wicked
Book by Robert O. Hirson
Directed by Kimberly Dooley
Music Direction by Jonathan Fadner
Assistant Direction and Aerial Coordination by Kimberly Miller

A young prince goes on a fantastical quest to find the meaning of life in this experimental, '70s-style rock-circus filled with sensual and inventive story-telling. Love, war and politics - it's all here in this hip, tongue-in-cheek, anachronistic fairy tale which captivated Broadway audiences and continues to appeal to the young at heart everywhere. The energetic pop-influenced score by composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked and Godspell) bursts with one show-stopping number after another. Enjoy soaring ballads to infectious dance numbers infused with acrobatics, Fosse jazz and aerial dance!
