Rita was a blast! Seventy nine years old sure isn't what it used to be! She was singing and dancing up a storm and told marvelous tales from her life. We had front row seats and really felt connected to her too.

I went to the matinee on 9/11 and I will say this - it was better than watching the Twin Towers fall again. I really love Rita Moreno. I think she's super talented and she's got the goods but this show does not serve her well at all and the fault is in the writing. The first interminable act is a rote "this happened then this happened then this happened" sort of chronology without ANY dramatic thrust, no continuity in the storytelling, no arc, nothing. Then, almost unbelievably, maybe 90 seconds before the end of the first half she casually mentions that she dated Marlon Brando for five years, cheated on him with Elvis to make his crazy, and tried to kill herself with sleeping pills. And....BLACKOUT. Curtain comes down. There's not a single story that came out of dating Marlon Brando for five years? Nothing? Seriously, NOTHING? It's like hearing someone read their own Wikipedia entry. It's facts and figures but no soul. Meanwhile, no expense seems to have been spared in dressing up this show with clever props, backup boys, a band that looks beautiful behind translucent curtains but is rarely engaged, and all sorts of empty nonsense that does nothing to create a theatrical experience. Even a kind of West Side Story moment is filled with rows of falling streamers that left me wondering for five minutes whose job it is to roll those back up after every show. The Jerome Robbins dancing days are gone - but that's life. And who cares? Why waste all that time and energy reminding us what has been lost instead of tell us the sort of intimate stories that we would never be privy to otherwise? Rita Moreno is STILL a great talent. Shame, shame, shame on the people who've wrapped her up in this mess.

A lovely two plus hours of Rita. I felt as though I were sitting in her living room listening to her talk about her fascinating life. She may not be able to dance like the old days but not bad for 79 years old. Not bad at all. I was thoroughly enchanted. Keep moving girl!!
