I so very wanted to enjoy the performance, but I failed. SAGA is a modern opera with very jazz-inspired discordant music (not my cuppa tea but that doesn't mean 'bad'). The libretto, the lyrics - I hope the composer did this purposefully and I just didn't 'get it', but it just came off as immature and amateurish. For example, the main character is sneaking into her parents home with bad intent and sings "I'm sneaking in!" All I could think was, yeah, that's obvious.
On the brighter side, the cast sang their hearts out, and the staging and set design were really intriguing.
Unfortunately, I'd rate this 3-stars for all non-music aspects of the production and subtract 2-stars for the music/libretto.
