This was an amazing production with gorgeously, outlandish costumes and some impressive dancing. This show infused a fresh breath of air into an old standard for me. I would definitely see this show again & take a few family members to see it as well.

We loved it! Not a traditional Nutcracker as some of the lower scored reviews seem to indicate what people are expecting. There is "dance" throughout the show but not hardcore 'ballet' as is the norm. And often there's so much happening on stage you're awash in activity. You hear laughs and you know you were focusing in the wrong direction. The Waltz of the Snowflakes and Waltz of the Flowers were worth the price of admission alone! Fabulous costumes and fun gender-tweaking too! Would definitely go again!

Description

The beloved Bay Area tradition continues as Mark Morris's immortal The Hard Nut -- a glorious and heartfelt reimagining of the Nutcracker tale -- returns to its favorite holiday home! "Seriously entertaining, gorgeously danced, and improbably touching" (San Francisco Chronicle), this holiday classic is depicted with tremendous humor and wit by way of fantastic costumes and comic-book sets based on the drawings of artist Charles Burns. Morris's unique interpretation faithfully celebrates Tchaikovsky's complete original musical score. But what distinguishes The Hard Nut is the tenderness behind Morris's dazzling wit, the brilliance of the dancing itself, and scenes of deeply felt emotion.
