Members Who Went Said:I disagree with "Anonymous Member" who gave the show just 1 star. My firends and I had a wonderful time at Matchmaker. Not only was it a solid performance with overall good acting but we also laughed a lot. I recommend this show to anyone who wants to have fun at the theatre. Also, you can't beat the price. Where else can you go and see a live performance for $6? Thank you Goldstar!
Renee S. Most amateurish performance we've seen at Live Oaks Theater, and too dated to be of interest.
lior Too bad - I had hoped for a funny evening. The play was not very well done. Seemed more like a dress rehearsal. Oh, well... |

More Details About This Event: A widow who brokers marriages and other transactions in Yonkers, New York, at the turn of the 20th century, Dolly Levi sets her sights on local merchant Horace Vandergelder, who has hired her to find him a wife. After a series of mistaken identities, secret rendezvous, separated lovers and a trip to night court, can Dolly still arrange a happy ending for everyone?
A homegrown literary hero, Thornton Wilder graduated from Berkeley High School in 1915 and hit the ground running. Years after his Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth both won Pulitzer Prizes, he reworked an older play of his into the wild (pun intended) farce The Matchmaker, opening it on Broadway in 1955. The play was later adapted into the musical Hello, Dolly! About Actors Ensemble of Berkeley: Actors Ensemble is the longest running theater organization in Berkeley— going strong since 1957. All of productions are made possible through the efforts of volunteers, who provide the actors, the designers, the builders, the publicity, the behind-the-scenes production, and all the other things necessary to put on a first rate show. |
