Written by the award-winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, noted playwright Terrence McNally, and based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, Ragtime the musical intertwines the stories of three extraordinary families as they confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. Called by Time Magazine "A triumph for the stage," and by the International Herald Tribune "the best musical in twenty years," this acclaimed musical won the 1998 Tony Awards for Best Score, Book and Orchestrations, and captured both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score. Youth Musical Theater Company brings together a cast of talented youths from seventh grade through college level to present this show featuring a melting pot of musical styles to tell of life in turn-of-the-century America -- a story that remains equally relevant today. You know I enjoyed this production more than I thought I would. I love how the cast was creative in how they created the "sets". You really had to visualize and use your imagination. I also enjoyed the dancing and the guy that tap danced along with the small scale acrobatics and body movements. I thought "Alice" was very captivating - just wish she could project a little better. I some times had to strain to hear what she was saying. Overall, glad I went.Written on May 07 2009

This is a beautiful adaptation of Alice in Wonderland gorgeously staged and showcasing the very talented senior students of the SF Circus School. Might be a bit slow in places for very young children but since there are moments of fantastic stunts, tricks, jokes, acrobatics, tap dancing and music they quickly recover. Not too long and admirably directed and written.Written on May 04 2009

Good event for kids but adults may not enjoy it as much as the young ones do. I have to say...the rabbit stole the show! Also, the theater in Berkeley was really cute!Written on May 06 2009
