The John E. Marlow Guitar Series, now in its 18th season, turns its spotlight on Sydney native Simon Powis, an exciting young classical guitarist known for his devotion to performing new works. Over the past several years, Powis has collaborated with a variety of composers to premiere more than 30 new pieces on the concert stage. This performance is slated to include a wide variety of music from masters like Piazzola, Giuliani and Scarlatti, along with 20th-century composers Armand Coeck and William Walton. Tickets includes admission to a pre-concert lecture, which begins 45 minutes prior to the performance, and also a "Meet the Artist" reception afterwards.

A wonderful performance, which was part of a larger guitar concert series. They included a reception afterwards to meet the guest artist which was also very nice.

Description

Simon Powis completed his studies in Sydney, Australia at the Conservatorium of Music in 2004, then set out to personally study with some of the world’s renowned virtuosos: Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell and Pavel Steidl. Mr. Powis was accepted to Yale University on full scholarship and completed a Master of Music and doctoral studies with Ben Verdery.

Mr. Powis has toured extensively as a soloist. His passionate and expressive playing, coupled with a formidable technique, has generated much attention for this talented young guitarist.
