It was a terrific event! The print was wonderful; I can't remember ever seeing a black and white movie in such fine detail. The acting and directing were wonderful, as was the cinematography. I didn't know whether to fall in love with Donna Reed or Deborah Kerr (both were ravishing) and there couldn't possibly be better leading men than Burt Lancaster or Montgomery Clift (so how did "Old Blue Eyes" win the Oscar?).

I wish all my friends could have seen it, although my date didn't really care for it (what's that about?).

This was a very cool event! The screening was awesome, since it's a treat to watch classic movies on a big screen. The best part was before the screening - Lou Diamond Phillips' conversation with Mr. Borgnine. Mr. Borgnine is a legend and provided a great in person interview before the movie! Plus you can't beat the price - Free plus a service fee!

Fantastic. I'm so impressed that the Academy does these screenings. Great movie and what a pleasure to see Mr. Borgnine. He's 92 years old and still going strong. A wonderful evening. Thanks Goldstar.

Description

Includes a Discussion with Ernest Borgnine

This compelling drama, adapted from the novel by James Jones, explores the troubled lives of several soldiers (and the women who love them) on a Hawaiian Army base in the months leading up to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The film culminates with a large-scale re-creation of the attack, combined with actual documentary footage.

The winner of eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Directing (for Fred Zinnemann), the film features no less than five Oscar®-nominated performances, including Oscar-winning turns by Frank Sinatra and Donna Reed in supporting roles. The famed embrace in the surf between Army wife Deborah Kerr and her lover Burt Lancaster still sizzles.

This new digital restoration by Sony Pictures was made from the only original elements still in existence, the fine grain master positive, which was scanned at 4K to create a new 35mm negative, and features a digitally restored original soundtrack.

Cast Burt Lancaster (Sgt. Milton Warden), Montgomery Clift (Robert E. Lee Prewitt), Deborah Kerr (Karen Holmes), Donna Reed (Alma, also known as Lorene), Frank Sinatra (Angelo Maggio), Philip Ober (Capt. Dana Holmes), Mickey Shaughnessy (Sgt. Leva), Harry Bellaver (Mazzioli), Ernest Borgnine (Sgt. “Fatso” Judson), Jack Warden (Corp. Buckley)
