The picture-perfect facade of '50s-era family life is torn away in Far From Heaven, the stage adaptation of the Oscar-nominated romantic melodrama from director Todd Haynes (I'm Not There, Mildred Pierce). While managing a household that would show-up the Cleavers in its neatness and apparent civility, a Connecticut housewife discovers her husband's secret ... only to seek comfort in a forbidden relationship of her own. Tony Award-winning playwright Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out) and the creators of the musical Grey Gardens collaborated on this romantic musical that evokes Haynes' original inspiration: the lush, Technicolor brilliance of the films of Douglas Sirk. Now, for its Boston premiere, Scott Edmiston directs a smart and sophisticated production at the SpeakEasy Stage. Learn More

Great venue for an intimate, multi-themed production. I liked the direction, set, lighting and sound but the acting was a bit stiff, did not feel natural. The themes are provocative. The production has merit and should do well once the actors loosen up a bit.
