Join the Boston Symphony Orchestra for a Beethoven extravaganza. German conductor Christoph von Dohnányi and the Soviet-born, Israeli-American pianist Yefim Bronfman collaborate with the BSO on a program featuring the composer's first two piano concertos and the third of his Leonore overtures. The two piano concertos exemplify the music of their day while exhibiting a carefree cheerfulness that is Beethoven's trademark. The program ends with the overture from Beethoven's only opera, which started its life as Leonore and eventually became Fidelio. The third overture is not the one that ultimately opened the opera, but many feel that it is the most successful. While the actual Fidelio overture ended up as simply a powerful opening moment, the third Leonore overture conveys the overall themes of the entire opera. Learn More
