Inside a ramshackle Massachusetts movie theater, a trio of film-loving employees becomes involved in their own comic drama of love and friendship as they sweep the aisles and try to keep an ancient 35 mm projector running. It's a fast-changing world we live in -- so if this indie movie house doesn't make the transition to digital projection its days are likely numbered. And as Sam, Avery and Rose navigate lives as sticky as the theater floors, they experience heartbreaks and comic conflicts as interesting as anything up on their silver screen. Obie Award-winner Annie Baker (Circle Mirror Transformation, Body Awareness) wrote this heartfelt work hailed by The New York Times as a "lovingly observed play [that] will sink deep into your consciousness." Fantastically staged play. Excellently paced, well-spoken, fairly lavishly costumed, and splendidly acted. I'd never read or seen this, but though it's not one of Shakespeare's masterpieces, this production is incredibly fine. Tina Packer's directing is dynamite. This is theater of the highest caliber. (The red velvet of Cardinal Wolsey's cape was a visual feast.)
