Besides being the offspring of stage and film royalty, (Colleen Dewhurst and George C. Scott), Campbell Scott is a pro in his own right, with quite a superlative resume of both film and stage work. He is a totally entertaining performer who really gets to the meat of a role. The story was interesting, full of twists and turns, with a bit of spice and tabloid edge to give it some punch. It wasn't my favorite play, but it was an enjoyable experience all around. It was a treat to see Mr. Scott perform in such an intimate venue, and nail the role!Written on Sep 17 2007

Campbell Scott was excellent, and Ronan Noone, the playwright, continues to amaze in this wickedly funny departure from his previous Irish tales.Written on Sep 17 2007

We didn't realize it was a one man show and didn't know what to expect because we'd never experienced one before. Campbell Scott was excellent in his role. He drew you right into the character and the story. Even my husband enjoyed it, and he's not a big theater-goer in general. In all a very entertaining and fun night out.Written on Oct 01 2007

More Information About The Atheist
Description
Every good news story needs a good storyteller. Augustine Early, a crooked journalist, has made an art of clawing his way up the professional ladder. When he turns a prominent politician’s tawdry predilections into front-page news, the scandal threatens to undo the one person he thought was immune: Augustine himself. The Atheist is a searing and hilarious new play about catching the perfect front-page headline, whatever the cost.
Actor and director Campbell Scott (whose numerous film credits include "The Secret Lives of Dentists" and "Roger Dodger," as well as the title role in Hamlet for the Huntington) performed a reading of this one-man show during the Huntington’s 2006 Breaking Ground Festival of New Plays, before The Atheist premiered in both New York and London earlier this year.
The Atheist is written by Huntington Playwriting Fellow Ronan Noone, whose play Brendan is also part of the Huntington’s 2007-2008 Season, and will be directed by Huntington Artistic Associate Justin Waldman.
