The first half was very good, but it got didactic towards the end. 15 minutes could be shaved off. it needs work, and tightening up, but the premiss is very good, well acted, an well staged.

Though slightly stilted and didactic, this tells an important story about early gay rights entertainingly

“_The Temperamentals_ is an exceedingly fine play – smart, passionate, focused, and satisfying.—Backstage

By Jon Marans

Directed by Jeremy Johnson

This hit off-Broadway play tells the story of two men – the communist Harry Hay and the Viennese refugee and fashion designer Rudi Gernreich – as they fall in love while forming the first gay-rights organization in the pre-Stonewall United States. “Temperamental” was a necessary code word in the early 1950s – danger was always an underlying presence but with it, a heady, intoxicating secrecy also hung in the air.
