"His skin was pale and his eye was odd" -- and that's only the beginning of what's unsettling about Mr. Todd, the barber/serial killer at the dark heart of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Set in the gloomy alleys of 19th-century London, this production from Lyric Stage Company of Boston "attends the tale" of Todd who, after being banished on false charges, returns to the city to exact his bloody revenge. A legendary smash in 1979, this black comedy won eight Tony Awards while The New York Times gushed it contained "more artistic energy, creative personality and plain excitement" than a dozen average musicals. Recently adapted into a hit movie starring Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd now comes to Boston in a vibrant production directed by Spiro Veloudos. Learn More

This hit off-Broadway play tells the story of two men – the communist Harry Hay and the Viennese refugee and fashion designer Rudi Gernreich – as they fall in love while forming the first gay-rights organization in the pre-Stonewall United States. “Temperamental” was a necessary code word in the early 1950s – danger was always an underlying presence but with it, a heady, intoxicating secrecy also hung in the air.
Will McGarrahan (as Harry Hay)
Nael Nacer (as Rudi Gernreich)
